As I reach my 9th year as a somatic practitioner many new possibilities unfold. I've just returned from San Diego, CA where I experienced not only a stampede of dolphins, but the stories of numerous somatic colleagues who have experienced near death states from severe car accidents, to brutal natural disasters, to cardiac arrest that required them to be revived. In keeping with the eerie content of this week while surrounded by unearthly beauty of southern California skies and towering palms, I had my own brush with death not two weeks before. The synchronicity of this event with a training I had been planning to attend for 6 months is stunning, but so were the synchronicities that continued all week as we shared and worked together.
As a former hospice worker, I am familiar with the veil of death for others, but it was if I needed to join a club that no one wants to be a member of in order to really understand the work we had to do. My close call on I-95 in Connecticut has slowed me down and given me new respect for the power and destructive potential of motor vehicles. It has also allowed me to engage with the extremely beautiful and powerful Somatic Experiencing tool called Eye of the Needle which allows individuals to explore events that force them to face their mortality. It's breathtaking work. I will be completing this training in November with one more week in sunny SoCal, but the work has already changed me and how I view clients.
Starting in May 2027, I will begin the other Master SE training I have be wanting to attend for years. This is Kathy Kain's Somatic Practice which is focused therapeutic table work paired with somatic psychotherapy. I fully expect this will transform my practice so that by 2028 my therapy practice will fully include touch work on the table.
The Core Centering training I completed in July with the Somatic Coaching Academy has already influenced my sessions and will support a new business line dedicated to somatic coaching. Under this umbrella I will offer stress management skills, reiki, and somatic touch. Look for a new website and offerings in the coming months. These may include a free Core Centering workshop as well as some new dates for The Embodied Art Therapy Methods course.
October will be all about book events for The Embodied Art Therapist. Visit www.theembodiedarttherapist.com for details.
