CIRCULAR IMAGES AND ENERGY WORK This dynamic workshop explores the relationship between the ancient symbol of the circle and natural manifestations of energy in the world. These include relationships between colors, harmony, and ancient systems of energy healing.
DOLL and PUPPET MAKING Dolls and puppets are natural containers for thoughts hopes and dreams originating in childhood.
It can be useful for mental health practitioners and others who work with children to know how to make a simple doll or puppet In these workshops, we explore creating dolls and puppets from basic materials; socks, felt, and yarn.
BOOKMAKING/ALTERED BOOKS One of the most popular workshops is the "tried and true" Mini-Accordion Bookmaking.
You'll learn several methods for making simple miniature books using paper folding of various materials from recycled to handmade papers. These small books make perfect gifts or can be used in therapy for self-reflection and affirmation.
Another option is to create altered books by repurposing discarded books into new art forms.
FIBERS and WEAVING Weaving as an art form is as old as humankind and has its own form of storytelling. In Weaving as Narrative Workshops we explore the links between "text" and "textile" and explore your own narrative thread. We also learn simple methods for creating your own loom.
Other fiber works can include needle-felting, knitting, and basket-making. We'll explore the therapeutic value of these rhythmic and nurturing arts
EMBODIED ART THERAPY METHODS These workshops give art therapists and other clinicians an introduction to the possibilities of overlapping art therapy and numerous body-based methods. These range from Somatic Experiencing to energy healing. While none of these workshops offer full training in any one method, they provide clinicians with an understanding of how these methods are useful to trauma healing. They provide resources for seeking certification and further training.
MONTHLY EMBODIED ART THERAPY GROUP This monthly online meeting offers a different body-based art experience within the safe container of the group.
ART JOURNALING Storytelling has been a source of collective history for millennia. It is a natural way of communicating to ourselves and to others what we truly believe and value. Art journaling is the practice of storytelling in a journal with both words and visual images.
This mode of working employs both the left and right sides of the brain thus encouraging greater integration of experience and meaning. Workshops are theme-based - Transitions, Travel, Myths etc..
SUPERVISION FOR ART THERAPY GRADUATES I provide online supervision for art therapy graduates who are seeking their national ATR credentials with the Art Therapy Credentialing Board or who wish to have continued support for their professional practice. I often incorporate embodied methods into my advisement. This group meets on the third Sunday of each month from 6-8 pm and is currently full.
Any of these workshops can be requested for a group of four or more clinicians or clients. Currently, groups are online with the hope of in-person groups in the Hastings Studio in 2023.
Embodied Art Therapy Methods for Clinicians, the Monthly Art Therapy Group, and the Supervision for Art Therapists are on the calendar for Winter/Spring 2023.
