Great for mental health practitioners or any one to share life transitions, stressors, explore connections and coping skills through a verbal/nonverbal experiential model.

Bring water and a light lunch.  We will take a break.   Wear “messy” clothes for art making.

Moving Beyond
  “STUCK-NESS”

A Mindfulness Based Creative Arts Workshop for Practitioners

We all experience personal “stuck-ness” (e.g., job stress, interpersonal relationships, weight loss, stagnant careers, etc...).

This feeling of being “stuck” gets in the way of living our lives in a meaningful and fulfilling way that is in accordance with our values.

Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, journaling, meditation, guided imagery, and the identification of personal symbols through mixed media/collage we will engage a therapeutic creative process. You will acquire a repertoire of tools to help respond to your personal “stuck-ness” and direct practice skills to assist your clients.

When: Please join us on Sunday, March 30th from 10-12PM

Where: Art Therapy on Hudson, 465 Broadway, Hastings-on- Hudson, NY (Basement Studio)

Cost: $60 payment required in advance via cash, check or credit card (Reimbursement minus admin. fee of $20 only if you cancel before 3/23. Otherwise fee is forfeited). $70 fee if not paid in advance of the workshop.

In Memory of Edith Kramer
1916 to 2014
The Mother of Art Therapy

Dear Art Therapy Colleagues,

I am sad to inform you that the "Mother of Art Therapy", Edith Kramer has passed away on Friday, February 21st at age of 98.  Edith was the pioneer and the founder of the NYU Art Therapy Program whose development and success we owe to her enormously.

Edith left us many gifts, but above all her belief in the power of creative process itself as the core element in art therapy practice has forever imprinted in our artist soul.  It's not an overstatement to say that we are here because of Edith Kramer's passionate and stubborn advocacy of the field of art therapy.  We shall always remember this tiny woman with red apple cheeks and a long gray braid, cladded in a pair of painted pants and Doc Martin Shoes.

With memory of Edith,
Ikuko Acosta
Director
NYU Graduate Art Therapy Program

Create a valentine for yourself?

How weird is that?   Not if you are struggling with the low self-esteem that can ensue from divorce, illness, aging or any of the myriad of losses we experience in life.    A warm compassion focused meditation and the indulgence of play with bright colors of fabric, papers and other art materials, can be just the self hug one needs.   This is exactly what we did on Sunday with a small, but happy group who created symbols of self love to be taken home, enjoyed and used as  reminders of our most important job: To value and love ourselves.   If you have that it becomes more possible to care for others, make valentines for them or just have the energy to continue loving yourself.

Join us next time for these "Journaling for the Soul" workshops:

February 15 1:30-3:30 "Playing with Color" - explore your own spectrum through Chakra meditation and play with art materials.

March 2 1:30 - 3:30 "Privacy in a World with No Secrets" - exploring how the increasingly interconnected world impinges on our private time and exploring ways to hold onto it.

Special Workshops:

March 29, 10am to 5pm - day long workshop
"The Weave of Life" - Myths and methods of weaving will be explored as natural forms of healing and interconnection.

March 30, 10am to 12 noon - "Moving Beyond STUCK-ness" - A workshop combining Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Art Therapy for mental health practitioners.
