It is my pleasure to welcome you to the new website for my private practice. In ten years of practice and teaching in the healing arts I've had time to reflect on the enormous potential for the experiential therapies to impact the world and people's lives for the better.
Recently I renovated my professional website and it forced me to ask "What exactly are experiential therapies?" which is a great question. Traditional psychotherapy involves talking, recollecting and reviewing events in your life as a way to recovery. Experiential therapies bring the experience of life into the therapy room - whether through painting, dancing, singing or paying attention to your own breath and body. With experiential therapies emotions become activated in the body and can be linked to the more cerebral activities of talking and thinking. Experiential therapies are integrating and allow for the mind/body connection to occur.
With the creation of Art Therapy on Hudson it is my hope to provide a space for those who need alternative forms of therapy in the Rivertowns of lower Westchester County in the Hudson Valley. In this practice the focus is on art and journaling experiences although it is possible we may have collaboration with dance, music or drama therapies down the road. Having gained more experience with Reiki healing and the Jungian based practice of mandala assessment, these two modes add an exciting element and depth to established practice of art therapy groups, art journaling and individual psychotherapy. I am delighted to continue collaborating with editor and writing coach Nelly Gupta, MA on the Writing for the Soul art journaling workshops and to welcome Valeria Koutmina, MPS, ATR-BC, LCAT into group art therapy practice.
Look at the Fall 2013 Schedule and see if there is something which appeals to you. We are actively seeking membership in groups and always inviting new clients to try out experiential art therapy.
